Project Scope

Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission (PRMM) was established by Pandita Ramabai Dongre, who officially began her work in March of 1889 with the opening of Sharada Sadan ("Home of Learning") in Mumbai (Bombay). In the year 1896, she established an institution for the relief of widows, deserted wives and helpless girls and boys known as the Mukti Mission. The school moved to Pune in 1890 and had 26 child widows and 13 non-widows in the school. Today, Mukti Mission is a multi-faceted ministry with 1,000 people (staff, children, widows, elderly women, blind, academically challenged, etc.) including children's homes, schools, job training, hospital, retreat center, dairy farm, and community development outreach.

PRMM has many old buildings such as the church building dating back to 1899, which holds 2,500 people. PRMM owns much land (150 acres) that has already been roughly surveyed (mainly boundaries, not including topography). PRMM has requested eMi² to come and provide a detailed survey of the site to include contours, utilities, manholes, existing buildings, other existing features (pathways, trees, etc.), mark boundaries (where needed), and establish permanent benchmarks.

This will be the third EMI team to visit PRMM since March 2008 where a previous team provided a map of existing buildings on the sites, master plan design for future developments, and design for an English medium school to accommodate 1,000 students (grades 1-12). A second team served at PRMM to assess the structural integrity of the existing buildings, wastewater assessment, and a stormwater evaluation. View Report

Volunteers participating on this eMi² project trip will fly into Mumbai (Bombay) and then travel five hours train ride to Kedgaon. There will be some time during the trip to explore Mumbai, which is known as the glamorous commercial hub of India as well as home for poor slum dwellers.

The team will consist of surveyors and survey technicians; if possible, additional survey equipment will need to be brought to complete the work.

Committing to visit and serve PRMM with eMi² will be an unforgettable experience worth investing in. Praying for His wisdom, peace, and guidance in forming this team.
