Joined eMi²
Having served with eMi² as an intern in from September 2003 to February 2004, I returned here seeing the need on January 2010.
Story If you know who Garos are, you did well. For those who don't have any idea, Garo is one of the tribes in the North East of India who were head hunters a century earlier. We are grateful for Missionaries who left the comfort and everything their society could offer to a leech/mosquito infested area and to one of the wettest places on earth with blood thirsty inhabitants and the jungle even the British army hated to tread.
I was born and brought up in a small Christian family in Tura, Meghalaya. I lost my father at the age of 4. Mother struggled to raise 6 kids of which I was the youngest. But with the faith which engenders hope, she labored hard in whatever she worked on. If there was any 'caste system' in our tribe, widows with children would be the lowest class, patronized by society. In the course of our family life, He proved He's our real Father. We struggled and I managed to get in and get out of Architecture College. As a gratitude to His faithfulness, I wanted to serve 1/10th of my time in college in a mission. That's when I found out about Engineering Ministries International, India (eMi²). I came to eMi² as an intern in 2003-2004, and I felt I grew closer to Him, not because Mussoorie is 7000 ft high, but because of the fellowship of godly people and opportunity to serve others. I discovered God in a new way.
After leaving eMi², I ventured into the corporate world working with various national and international firms for almost 6 years. There were times I was haunted with dissatisfaction with corporate industry and the real meaninglessness in the whole system. Introspection would always leave me without satisfactory answers. I prayed for direction.
It was in 2009, Feb, when I just joined a new firm, I volunteered in one of eMi² projects. It was rejuvenating and I thank God for facilitating me in the midst of a busy schedule. During this time, I was also preparing to go for my postgraduate study abroad. Somewhere inside I reckoned God will fulfill my desire to go to Grad school 'because I obeyed Him'. However on the last day of the trip I was faced right on when the project leader asked me if I would be willing to join eMi² as a staff. I totally understood the ramifications of the question. It was a mixed feeling. It was not on my card.
In the course of 8 months, God led me by closing some doors and opening some. I didn't hear a specific voice and or a random word I could avidly cry it's a direction. I just felt led. So here am I in eMi² excited- traveling, drafting, eating, growing, singing, encouraging others or being encouraged having fully understood the hazy future with challenges and glory knowing God is an author and finisher of our faith; the one who has started it will also finish and establish it.
Professional Experience
I hold a B.Arch from Goa University, 2003 and registered with Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), 2007. In about 6 years, I got the opportunity to work with various national and international firms in New Delhi, India. I worked on an ensemble of projects from Institutions and Offices to residences for 6 months in a small but well known firm in New Delhi before joining the bigger firm, which I joined on the invitation to do a University campus development in my home state, Meghalaya. In the new office, I was delegated to develop a conceptual design incorporating traditional architectural elements in NEHU Tura Campus, Meghalaya. The campus covered about 373 acres on an uneven terrain. I drafted the construction drawings and also undertook the task of supervision of construction by frequently visiting the site. After working with home-based firms, I wanted to have a taste of multinational clique. In the course of two years I worked with two multinational giants- one of them with emphasis on Corporate Interiors.
In both firms, as a Project architect I worked on various deliverables like conceptual design, presentation drawings, and construction drawings as well as coordinating with various consultants like HVAC, MEP and LEED consultants, etc
